The Plan

The original scheme featured a central plant with HIU units. While functional, the client sought a smarter solution — one that could cut capital and running costs, reduce carbon emissions, boost overall energy efficiency, and fully meet demands of Part O compliance and wider ESG targets.

Project Overview

Under the new Part O compliance program, overheating risks had to be addressed early. A TM59 report confirmed that active cooling was essential for both tenant comfort and compliance.

Working with Tate Consulting, HE Simm, and the client, KERS Innovation developed a solution that exceeded requirements by removing HIUs and integrating the KERS Weatherby Hot Water Heat Pump for efficient Hot Water and the KERS CoolBoost Hot Water Heat Pump for active cooling. Using free cooling from the heat pump process, CoolBoost redirected energy into the apartments to maintain comfortable indoor temperatures without additional cooling equipment.
